Daniel F. Bassill has led volunteer-based tutor/mentor programs serving inner-city children and youth for more than 30 years. Between 1973 and 1990 this was a volunteer role, as Bassill held various advertising positions within the Montgomery Ward Corporation. Since 1975, more than 4,000 volunteers and 3,800 K-12 youth have participated in programs Bassill has led. Some volunteers have participated for more than 10 consecutive years and some students have participated from first grade through college.
Bassill combines 40 years of unique experiences into my leadership of Cabrini Connections and the Tutor/Mentor Connection. Few people in the US have a similar depth of involvement and experiences.
Bradley Troast is the Assistant Program Coordinator of Cabrini Connections, Tutor/Mentor Connection, where he is working as a Northwestern University Public Interest Program (PIP) Fellow. His role is multifaceted but it can be broken down into two main focus areas, co-coordinating our youth tutor/mentor program, Cabrini Connections, and building resources for the Tutor/Mentor Connection. In his fellowship role, he coordinates events, enrichment activities and over 70 one-on-one mentoring relationships between 7th-12th grade youth and volunteer tutor/mentors who meet regularly, both through our weekly on-site tutoring sessions as well as on their own in the community. He also supervises a number of interns, and does public relations outreach both through traditional media as well as through his blog (
