Cabrini Connections Art Club Our mission is to provide an environment in which at-risk students are able to succeed creatively through visual communication and technologies like photography, sculpture, graphic design, drawing and painting. By creating visual works, the students not only learn how to produce and communicate important messages and ideas, but also acquire skills in project-management, team building and critical thinking. We believe that making art is a significant contributor to increasing self-esteem and building literacy.
The 2006-07 Art Club will begin
summer activities during the second week of July, then will continue through the
school year. Volunteers and students meet every week on
Art Club - Tuesdays 5: 45-7:15pm. Each year the students develop a theme
and create related work in various media. The 2005-06 year students
created
a mural depicting the Cabrini Green Neighborhood, which was shown and sold at
the fall art festival. Students explore their various selves as they discover
them in internal and external environments. Check out our online
gallery for examples of
work from
previous years. Art Festival, Friday, Fall 2006 Thank you to everyone who was able to come out on Friday, October 7th, for the 2005 Art and Video show. There are so many exciting things to report! Not only was the event a success financially, but the entire mural was bought anonymously and given back to Cabrini Connections to hang permanently. Can you believe it?! Also, many of the guests who attended, walked away with amazing pieces from our rising star/emerging artists. Thanks again for your support. The art festival will repeat in 2006. Dates have not yet been set. International Arts/Mentoring Add your link at International Arts Mentoring organization in any part of the world. Become a 2006-07 Sponsor The arts/video and technology programs of Cabrini Connections are part of a comprehensive set of actions intended to connect youth with adult volunteers who will mentor them toward jobs and careers. The funds raised from the Art Festival do not come close to covering the annual costs of providing these experiences to our teens. Please consider becoming a donor and sponsor of the 2006-07 program. Every contribution helps us build a positive future for our teens. Visit http://www.cabriniconnections.net/sponsor06.07.htm to learn more.
