Here are some of the projects we are working on:
Technology planning wiki, where everyone in the organization can contribute to the vision and strategy.
Cabrini Connections COOL CASH program, where students earn as they learn to use the information on our web sites. View Summary of student and volunteer 2008-09 use of SVHATSs.
Blogging project - Our President, students, volunteers, and interns are all talking about their experiences online through blogs. We hope to encourage others to become part of the discussion in the future. Find blog list here.
Integrating eLearning Activities into Tutoring Sessions – Volunteers and students are encouraged to use the Internet during tutoring time. They have access to activities and software to encourage computer and Internet use.
Choices Planner – Cabrini Connections is working in conjunction with Chicago Public Schools to encourage our students to use a powerful college and career planning tool called Choices Planner. This tool is offered to all CPS students free of charge, but most students are unaware of it.
SVHATS (Student/Volunteer History and Tracking System) - This system allows us to document a student's progress as they meet with their tutor/mentor. Students build the habit of visiting our website and logging in. This system also includes discussion boards and other collaborative features we will start using in the future. For more information, click here.
Newsletter System – We communicate with our volunteers, alumni, board members, donors and other interested parties through targeted email newsletters. We have been improving these communication tools through the use of a subscription system and improved formats for readability.
Projects of the Tutor/Mentor Connection
The Tutor/Mentor Connection, a program of Cabrini Connections, shares many of Cabrini Connections’ elearning goals, but on a global level.
What this means is that while Cabrini Connections seeks to engage its teens, volunteers, parents, leaders and donors in on-line learning and collaboration, the T/MC tries to connect leaders, volunteers and donors from more than 200 tutoring and/or mentoring programs in Chicago and thousands of others in places throughout the country, and the world. The Tutor/Mentor Connection website includes an expanding library of information related to tutoring and mentoring and forums that encourage people to learn from the experiences of others.
The Tutor/Mentor Connection launched a new map-based interactive Chicago Programs Locator in April 2009.
