Video and Filmmaker's Club (IYP)

Showcasing TalentsInnervision Youth Productions (IYP) is a video creation project connecting teens and volunteers, which began at Cabrini Connections in 1996. And after short break in the club, IYP is NEW and IMPROVED under a new club name.

And keep up with their progress all year long at: http://cabrinifilms.blogspot.com.

Video and Filmmakers Club

New volunteer Michael Alexander leads the Video and Filmmakers Club on Mondays from 5:30-7:00pm. This is a new and exciting club for students and volunteers who want to learn more about directing and producing films, conducting interviews, editing films, and using those skills to produce great individual and team projects!  Contact EL Da’ Sheon or Bradley for more information about the Video and Filmmaker's Club. This is What I Know: Our Lives, Our Truths, Our Stories

Between 2006 and 2009 a group of teens worked on a video documentary of the changes in Cabrini Green and the impact of living in public housing on the lives of our teens and families. During the April 4, 2009 Cabrini Connections Art Festival, the final version of their documentary was shown. Copies are now available for a donation of $15. History of IYP

Every year since 1995 7th to 12th grade students enrolled in the Cabrini Connections Tutor/Mentor Program in Chicago, IL have been able to work on video creation projects with volunteers from Chicago's film/video and arts community. This is part of the organization's Success Steps strategy. Student and volunteers have created short videos which can be viewed on this web site. Many of them are posted to Google and YouTube. These videos have been screened at an annual Art Festival and entered into a variety of student video competitions. One of our first students, Tramaine Montel Ford, was part of the cast of the 2007 Hairspray Movie. On his blog, he shows that he got his start in acting with Cabrini Connections.

Volunteers have a long history of engaging our students in arts, writing and communications. One volunteer, David Whitaker, wrote the book Cabrini Green: In Words and Pictures, with the help of students who were part of the tutoring program.

Volunteer with Cabrini Connections:

This year we're inviting new volunteers and former students to join the Video and Filmmakers Club, recognizing that many people would like to learn to create videos, and many would enjoy the social aspects of working with others to teach these skills, or learn them. Our aim is that as the volunteer team grows, we will create a wide range of video material that will educate the public about tutoring/mentoring and draw more volunteers, and donors, to Cabrini Connections, the Tutor/Mentor Connection, and similar programs throughout the city. As volunteers begin to share what they are doing with the students they work with, we hope this encourages new students to also get involved with the Video and Filmmakers Club.

You do not need to be a current tutor/mentor volunteer to join. If you are interested in getting involved for 2009-2010, please e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Film, Video, and Technology Sponsors Needed

For the students and volunteers to use the space at 800 W. Huron, or the technology at the center, we need to raise more than $200,000 per year. This comes from volunteers, foundations, and sponsors. If you would like to make a donation to help Cabrini Connections continue to offer Arts/Video and Technology programs, please use this sponsor form. Thank you.
