2010 Year End Dinner Theme and Beyond
Each year in Cabrini Connections, the students are given the opportunity to pitch their ideas for the upcoming Year End Dinner and the following year’s theme.  This year’s theme is “Hope, Build, Believe, and Achieve” and 7th grader Olivia Williams was the creator of that theme.  The theme ideas should tie into the overall program and should be a theme that can and should lead the program into a positive direction for the future.

We are in the process of selecting a new theme, with ballots going out last week and continuing this week, the Youth Leadership Council will use next week’s meeting to vote on the theme that best embodies the Cabrini Connections’ program.  The student who creates the winning theme will receive a prize package from Year End Dinner Planning Coordinator and former mentor Courtland Madock.

Good Luck!!!

Special Note:  The 2010 Year End Dinner will take place on June 10, 2010 and not June 3, 2010

Cabrini Connections’ 2010 Career Week
For the CPS Spring Break (March 29th-April 2nd) we will be hosting our Career Week.  We will be looking for opportunities to take groups of students out into offices, businesses, and organizations so that they can get a glimpse of potential future job/career sites.  Since many of the volunteers in the program are currently in careers where many of our youth want to be, we are asking all volunteers about the possibility of coming to their job sites during the week of Spring Break to get a tour and a brief presentation about the worksite and advice on how our students can get on the path to a future career in that field.

OFFICIAL TUTORING/MENTORING SESSIONS WILL BE CANCELLED, BUT THE PROGRAM WILL BE OPEN NORMAL TIMES FOR PEOPLE TO MEET.

From the President

Just like NBA Cares, Cabrini Connections Cares. Watch "The Awesomes" give back to the program.
http://vimeo.com/10028296

Over the past 4 weeks more than 100 of our students, volunteers, staff and friends have unleashed tremendous talent and enthusiasm on behalf of Cabrini Connections.

This video is one example. It features teens who organized a fund raiser for Cabrini Madness, and who helped make two videos to promote the event, and the tournament. Thus, teens are learning to use media to get public attention, and to motivate people to do something that supports the purpose of the video producers. That's advertising. That's leadership. These are skills 21st century companies are looking for.

Thus, while the weekly tutoring/mentoring connects teens and volunteers and provides a wide range of learning and enrichment, the work each teen and volunteer is doing to find donors and new supporters, is a step in taking charge of their future.

If we can teach these concepts our kids are less likely to be victims of poverty and racism, and a paralyzed public leadership. They can learn ways to choose what path they want in life, and reach out to find people who will help them achieve their goals.

This week there are more Cabrini Madness events. Follow the Cabrini, T/MC fund raising blog for latest details http://cabrinitmcfundraising.blogspot.com/
a

The money raised through Cabrini Madness will help us raise part of the money needed to operate Cabrini Connections, Tutor/Mentor Connection for a full year, but we will need other events, and other volunteers and donors to help, if we're to raise enough money to operate without going into debt.

Thus, we have other events that we hope you and friends will support. See the entire event calendar at http://www.cabriniconnections.net/calendar

We're looking for volunteers to help make each of these events a success. They all engage our teens in many different ways, and showcase the vibrant community that is created by a program like Cabrini Connections.

If you want to help, or meet with me to discuss these ideas, or introduce others from your own network to our organization, just call 312-492-9614 to schedule time to meet.
